There has been a huge increase in the last five years in the use of digital photoframes and photobooks. We can remove graffiti, television aerials and satellite dishes from old buildings and obliterate people who mysteriously appear in your shot, as well as cropping unwanted backgrounds. Many people these days are making use of companies such as Blurb, Pixum or Photobox to compile high quality books containing their own images. These are uploaded over the internet to the publisher who then prints them and binds them into a hardcover glossy book. These make fantastic gifts and are extremely good value for money. You need no special skills to produce your first book. Many people are now using these as ways of recording their children growing up, their family members or the changing area in which they live.

What these companies don't do is enhance or improve the images you send them - it really is a case of what you send them is what you get back. In many cases that is a great pity because these superb books are returned with images that would look a lot better had they been enhanced with higher contrast, better colouring and distracting artefacts removed.
